Angel investing by day, business areas by night.

That’s the format chosen for Venture North Pitch 2024, a start-up investment event taking place on 19 September in Sudbury.

It brings together two established events in one forum: Venture North, launched by the angel investment organization Northern Ontario Angels (NOA) in 2022, and PITCH, the business pitch challenge held annually by the innovation center NORCAT since 2014.

The goal of the event “is not only to attract potential accredited investors but also to inspire companies to explore the endless opportunities of Northern Ontario,” according to an event summary.

Featured activities include fireside chats, pitches from post-secondary institutions, a private investor zone, and local music.

The main speaker of the day will be Dr Sean Wise, professor of entrepreneurship at Toronto Metropolitan University and former adviser on the reality TV show Dragons’ Den.

During the evening’s events, four companies will present their business ideas to a panel of judges, who will announce the winners at the end of the evening.

A grand prize of $250,000 from the Sudbury Catalyst Fund will be awarded to the overall winner, with $10,000 going to the winner of the Judges’ Choice Award, and $5,000 going to the winner of the People’s Choice Award. A further $3,000 in in-kind vouchers to support business development are also available.

Information about the event and registration details are available here.
