Two people have been charged after police began a “suspicious winnings investigation” by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).
On December 14, 2023, officers received information from the OLG about a suspicious winning of lottery tickets at a retail store in Mitchell.
According to police, the winning ticket was allegedly stolen by a store employee and an associate of that employee subsequently claimed the $50,000 cash prize.
A 44-year-old Mitchell man has been charged with fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
A 51-year-old man from Stratford has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and possession of more than $5,000 in stolen property.
