Major accident in Cuba, major oil tank fire caused by lightning; 80 people injured, 17 firefighters missing

Cuba A crude oil storage tank located in Madanjas town was struck by lightning and a major fire broke out and other tanks also caught fire. Cuban officials made the announcement on Saturday. About 80 people were injured in Friday’s incident, while 17 firefighters were missing, he said. The power ministry tweeted that firemen and other experts are working to douse the fire.

Cuba’s official news agency reported that lightning struck one tank and then spread to another. According to information shared on social media by the provincial government of Matanzas, the number of injured in the accident has reached 80, while 17 people are missing.

A fuel tanker catches fire in Libya

In the last week of this month, at least nine people were killed and 76 injured after a fuel tanker caught fire in Libya. The state-run Libyan News Agency said the tanker truck overturned before catching fire. He said a large number of casualties were caused as people in the area started hoarding petrol despite warnings.

A similar incident happened in Jakarta

Earlier last month, an oil tanker crashed into cars and bikes in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta after a brake failure. At least 11 people were killed and many others injured in the accident. Latif Osman, director of Jakarta Police’s transport department, said a tanker truck belonging to Indonesia’s state-run energy company Pertamina lost control and crashed into two cars and 10 bikes. The accident took place after this. He said the accident happened at a red light in Sibupur, East Jakarta. At least 11 people died on the spot while six people were hospitalized, Usman said.
