The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) will have every race of its 2024 season streamed live on social media platform TikTok in a world first for motorsport, the series announced on Wednesday.
LONDON: The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) will have every race in its 2024 season streamed live on social media platform TikTok in a world first for motorsport, the series announced on Wednesday.
The races are also broadcast free in Britain on the ITV television network.
Organizers said the championship would be broadcast live worldwide and in full on the ITV Sport TikTok channel.
“This is a truly groundbreaking move for BTCC,” BTCC chief executive Alan Gow said in a statement.
“I am extremely pleased that we will be the first major motorsport championship in the world to have its entire racing season streamed live on TikTok.
“Most importantly, this deal will introduce the BTCC to a huge new and completely different demographic – a younger and more diverse audience – which is exactly what we, and indeed all of motorsport, are about try to achieve it.”
TikTok, owned by China’s ByteDance, claims to reach more than one billion monthly active users worldwide with 45% of them in the 18-34 age range and women making up around 57% of the all users.
The BTCC season opens at Donington Park on April 27-28 with the championship featuring 30 races across 10 weekends on circuits around Britain.
