New York: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday.
“Warm greetings to FM @FaisalbinFarhan and the government and people of Saudi Arabia. We hope the Strategic Partnership Council will take our relations to greater heights,” Jaishankar tweeted.
India-Saudi Arabia relations have significantly strengthened over the past few years in the fields of politics, defence, energy, trade, investment, health, food security, culture and security. The top leadership of the two countries remained in close contact even during the Covid pandemic.
This latest meeting comes weeks after Jaishankar made an official visit to the kingdom on September 10-12. This was his first visit to the kingdom as the Indian External Affairs Minister.
During the visit, EAM chaired the inaugural Ministerial Meeting of the Committee on Political, Security, Social and Cultural Cooperation (PSSC) established under the framework of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Group. Prince Al Saud.
The two Ministers undertook a comprehensive review of the entire bilateral relationship and discussed progress under the four joint working groups of the PSSC Committee. The two ministers positively assessed the progress of bilateral relations in all fields including politics, trade, energy, investments, defence, security and culture.
Several areas were identified for further development of bilateral cooperation such as food security, health, pharmaceuticals, defense industry and entertainment. Both sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest.

During the visit, EAM met other Saudi dignitaries to review bilateral relations and discuss ways to improve them. The External Affairs Minister also interacted with the Indian community in Saudi Arabia.
EAM and GCC Secretary General signed Memorandum of Understanding on Mechanism of Consultations between India and GCC. The MoU provides for institutionalizing an annual dialogue between India and the GCC and setting up working groups for cooperation in various sectors.
