New Delhi: During the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has suffered another setback. It appears that the Income Tax Department has issued a demand notice of 1700 crores to that party. Full details of this have yet to be revealed. The demand for payment notice appears to be for the period between 2017-18 and 2020-21. The notice is expected to include penalty and interest. On the other hand, the Delhi High Court rejected the Congress party’s request to reconsider the Income Tax Department’s assessment.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently accused the BJP of trying to harm his party financially. They claimed that the Center had caused serious damage to democracy by freezing the accounts of the Congress party. He expressed concern that the actions of the government will affect not only the Congress party but also democracy.
