The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a contempt notice to the Deputy Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The notice was issued in connection with the felling of over 1,000 trees for the construction of a road between Chhattarpur Road and SAARC University near Maidan Gari. A bench of Justices Bar Gwai and Sandeep Mehta said that Despite the court’s refusal, the DDA continued to cut trees for road construction, in violation of the court order.

Mahadin said that apparently we have found that the action of DDA to cut down trees for the purpose of road construction is in contempt of the court order. The court passed related orders on February 8 and March 4, 2024. Taking the matter up for hearing on May 8, the board said that a notice would be issued to the DDA vice-chairman and asked to show cause why action should not be taken against him for contempt of court order.
