ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint News / Pakistan Point – 27th March, 2024) Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reiterated Pakistan’s firm support to global efforts for peace and stability without compromising on the security of its people, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Addressing an Iftar dinner held in honor of members of the diplomatic corps at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the prime minister said ‘as a peace-loving nation, Pakistan desires peace with all and enmity with none’.
He reaffirmed that his government would follow this message from the country’s founders.
The prime minister further said that the constitution of Pakistan guarantees equal rights to all citizens without any distinction.
To translate it into reality, different policies had been enacted and all communities in Pakistan had complete freedom to profess their faith and practice their religion, he added.
The prime minister also highlighted the government’s priorities and said that after peaceful general elections are over, the progress and prosperity of the people of Pakistan is at the heart of the government’s agenda.
They had a development-oriented agenda to transform the economic trajectory, he said, adding that the government would strive to bring reforms, form a global partnership for shared development and attract foreign investment.
He said that country’s sound foreign policy continues to support global efforts for peace and stability.
The prime minister further reiterated Pakistan’s firm support to Palestinians in their just and inalienable right to self-determination and emphasized the need to make sincere efforts to immediately implement a resolution recently adopted by the United Nations Security Council for a ceasefire.
He said Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for global efforts for an immediate ceasefire.
Regarding the holy month of Ramazan, he said that this month signifies more than fasting and gives a message of sacrifice, discipline and warm hospitality, respect for all and embodies a spirit of compassion.
He said moreover, the month gave a powerful message of harmony, peace and tolerance, adding that these qualities are most needed in a world grappling with various challenges and divisions.
The prime minister said that they should strive to spread the common message of peace and equality and work together for a ‘fair and peaceful world order’.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that the month of Ramazan has special religious and social significance as it provides a time for reflection, compassion and unity, showing unity among diverse cultures.
The foreign minister said that Pakistan stands for the principles of peace, equality and justice, and continues to support all efforts for multilateralism, peace and mutual prosperity.
He said they should not forget the people of Gaza who had been facing hunger, bloodshed and misery.
He called for the immediate implementation of the UNSC resolution for a ceasefire, adding that the collective dreams of the world
A community for peace could not be achieved without resolving the regional disputes, including Kashmir and Palestine.
The foreign minister said the terrorist attacks in Moscow and Bisham were a reminder of the collective threat posed by terrorism.
He reiterated that Pakistan would continue to support the regional and global cooperation to tackle this menace.
The war against terrorism would not end until peace is won, he emphasized and said that Pakistan is ready to build bridges for the peace agenda for the whole world.
He said during Pakistan’s term as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, Pakistan had worked for international peace and prosperity and supported joint efforts to face the contemporary challenges.
