Rainy weather for the second year in a row again did not deter the participants from a special fundraising event.

Over 100 people gathered at the Town Hall for Cambridge Mental Health Beats on Saturday.

The fundraising event for Porchlight Addict and Mental Health Services saw $13,000 raised in online donations alone.

“We still have to count what else goes into that day,” said Cameron Dearlieb, CEO of Porchlight. “We’re really pleased.”

Participants took part in an accessible route of 2.5 or five kilometers before returning back to the municipality for lunch.

“All these people walking around downtown Cambridge with their Cambridge Moves for Mental Health t-shirts just shows that these kinds of things are important to us,” Dearlove said. “It’s all part of reducing stigma and opening doors for people to get the mental health help they need.”

Proceeds will go toward Porchlight’s upcoming move to a larger facility and ongoing support for people with mental health and addiction service needs.

“We’ve had rain two years in a row, so it’s the third time [next year] He’s the magic,” Deerlieb said. “The weather shows little of the resilience that people have. The fact that everyone goes out on Shabbat to tell the community that mental health is important.”
