An Indian passport is valid for ten years from the date of issue, after which it needs to be renewed. Renewals can be started up to three years after expiry or up to one year before expiry.

It is recommended to start the renewal process at least nine months before it expires for a hassle-free experience. However, it is possible to renew within six months. But there may be possible delays, which affect travel plans. For minors, the passport is valid for 5 years or up to the age of 18, whichever comes first. Later, they can choose to renew their passport online, minors aged 15 to 18 have the option of having a fully valid passport for 10 years.

How to renew passport online –

– For this first you have to go to Passport Seva website.

– Must register as a new user. If one is an existing user one must login.

– Then click on the ‘Apply for a Fresh Passport / Resend Passport’ option.

– Then you have to select the option ‘Click here to fill in the application form’.

– Fill in the required details including information about the applicant, family and address.

– Emergency contact details and previous passport details should be noted.

– Then consent to self-declaration and submit the form.

– After submitting the form, proceed to pay the passport renewal fee and schedule an appointment.

To book an appointment –

– You must log in to the Passport Service website.

– Then select the ‘View Saved and Submitted Application’ option and select ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’.

– Then select payment method and select Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).

– Then enter the captcha code to confirm the PSK of your choice.

– Then choose a convenient slot from the available dates and select ‘Pay and Book the Appointment’.

– Passport renewal fee varies based on age, page and scheme (regular or Tatkal). The Takal plan charges an additional fee of Tk 2000.

The documents required for renewal include original passport, application receipt, self-attested copies of relevant pages, proof of address and other specific documents depending on the category itself. After uploading the documents, visit the passport service center on the appointment date to complete the renewal process.

– Must log in to the Passport Service Portal.

– Then select ‘Track application status’ option.

– Then enter details such as application type, file number and date of birth.

– Click on ‘Track application status’ to know the status of your passport.

– Processing time depends on the selected plan, Normal plan takes 30-60 days and Tatkal plan ensures quick renewal within 3-7 days. Following these steps ensures a successful and stress-free online passport renewal experience

– Cost of reissue of passport/new passport with 36 page visa booklet for a period of 10 years Rs.1500.

– Cost of reissue of passport/new passport with 60 page visa booklet for 10 years validity Tk.2000.

– New/reissued passport for a child under 18 years of age, valid for 5 years or till the minor reaches 18 years of age, whichever is earlier (36 pages) – Rs.1000
