Police responded to a call from Sydney International Airport on Friday after a man was allegedly running around the airport’s main screening area.
Australian Federal Police intercepted the man on the track, they said in a statement today.
“AFP officers arrested a man, aged 30, who allegedly ran through the main screening area and gained access to restricted areas, including the apron,” they said.
The “apron” is the area where planes are loaded with cargo and passengers outside the terminal before taxiing to the runways.
The man was seen walking across an airport bridge outside the terminal after allegedly running through the screening area inside the terminal.
He then allegedly tried to enter the hold of a flight bound for Sri Lanka, but baggage handlers intervened and the man was arrested a short time later by AFP officers on the runway.
The man was evaluated at the hospital and remains there today.
The 30-year-old was issued a court appearance notice for violating restricted areas at the airport.
The man was not charged with any other offences
He was banned from Sydney International Airport for 12 months.
