More than a dozen murders. Mukhtar Ansari

It is said that even after receiving the money, Nandkishore Rungta was killed and his body disappeared, which has not been recovered till now. After this incident, Mukhtar Ansari emerged as a new pillar in the crime world. After that, Mukhtar Ansari became an MLA by contesting the Mau elections, which went on to win the MLA elections. During this period, Mukhtar Ansari also contested the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi parliamentary constituency against senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mohan Murali Manohar Joshi, but was defeated by a lesser number of votes. During this period, Mukhtar Ansari had become the king of the mafia world in the entire Purvanchal. From coal business to government contracts, no work was possible without Mukhtar Ansari’s permission. Even in Mau district, Mukhtar Ansari continued to look after distribution of PWD and other government contracts. The empire in the criminal world continued to grow and the number of criminal incidents also continued to increase. More than a dozen murders took place where Mukhtar Ansari’s name arose directly or indirectly.

During the riots in Mau in 2005, the video of Mukhtar waving over the open gypsy and his appeal seemed to create a different atmosphere. In 2005 itself, Krishnanand Rai, the then Member of Parliament from Mohammadabad assembly constituency in Ghazipur, was shot dead along with his seven colleagues. More than 400 rounds of bullets were fired in this massacre. Seen this way, Mukhtar, a young man with an oppressive image, had become the king of the criminal world. Not only this, due to his arrangements he had also become the owner of half a dozen assembly seats in Purvanchal. Where he once became an MLA under the banner of BSP and SP. Many times independents even won the elections.

Small parties were also formed. Mukhtar Ansari

During this period, Mukhtar Ansari also formed small parties like Hindu Muslim Ekta Dal, Qaumi Ekta Dal. Mukhtar Ansari’s Mafia is believed to have direct or partial influence on around 7-8 Lok Sabha and around 35-40 Assembly seats in Purvanchal of Uttar Pradesh. Once Mukhtar Ansari was famous in Varanasi, Ghazipur, Ballia, Jaunpur and Mau of Purvanchal. Mukhtar Ansari and his family are believed to have dominance in these areas. This is the reason why SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav sometimes adopted BSP chief Mayawati Mukhtar. Mayawati had even called Mukhtar Ansari the messiah of the poor.

form his own party

In the nineties, gang wars broke out in Ghazipur Mau, Ballia, Varanasi and Jaunpur over government contracts. During this period, the most popular name in these areas was Mukhtar Ansari. Mukhtar Ansari first became MLA from BSP’s Mau Sadar in 1996 and never looked back. Mukhtar made Mau his stronghold and remained MLA from here for five consecutive terms till 2022. In 2002, after not getting a ticket from BSP, Mukhtar Ansari decided to contest the elections as an independent from Mau Sadar and won. After that, he formed his own party and contested the elections in the name of Qaumi Ekta Dal and won twice in a row. In the 2017 assembly elections, Mukhtar once again joined BSP and merged his party Qaumi Ekta Dal with BSP and won.

For some reasons, he refused to contest in the Legislative Assembly elections in 2022 and placed his son Abbas Ansari on this seat and Abbas won the inheritance of Mau Sadar, Mukhtar. His name was once spoken in dozens of Purvanchal areas, today people are reluctant to associate his name with theirs. People say that in the eighties and nineties, the mafia in whose name Mukhtar Ansari used to open government contracts was used to make illegal extortion. Once people used to consider it an honor to be close to him, today people shy away from associating the name of that mafia Mukhtar Ansari with their name. Mukhtar’s influence, which started in the 90s, began to collapse by 2017. The situation means that in the campaign being run against the crimes of the Yogi government, by 2024, properties worth about Rs 500 crore of Mukhtar’s Mafia either seized or bulldozed.
