The global economy is expected to lose about 19% of income over the next 25 years due to climate change. This information is provided in a new study published on Wednesday.

This research was done by scientists from Germany’s Podsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. The study says climate impacts could cost the global economy $38 trillion a year by 2049.

Leonie Wentz, the scientist who led the study, published in the journal Nature, said: “Our analysis shows that climate change will cause massive economic losses in almost all countries around the world in the next 25 years. These also include developed countries such as America, France, Germany.

Another researcher, Maximilian Kotz, said that South Asia and Africa would be severely affected. Researchers studied weather and economic data from more than 1,600 regions around the world over the past forty years. According to him, the decrease in global income can range from 11% to 29%, depending on the uncertainty and data in different climate scenarios.

Investigators said the damage is estimated to be enormous. Reducing carbon emissions would cost about six times, and that would be enough to keep the average temperature rise to just two degrees Celsius.
