India has achieved another major success in terms of self-reliance in the defense sector. In fact, the Indian Navy has successfully tested the anti-submarine missile system. This missile system was developed by DRDO for Navy only. The Indian Navy on Wednesday successfully test-fired the Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) system off the coast of Belsur in Odisha.
This missile system is very important in anti-submarine warfare. It is a tank-based missile system capable of hitting long-range targets. A SMART missile can be launched from warships as well as from coastal areas. This missile completes most of its flight in the air at a low altitude and after arriving near its target, the torpedo will be released from the missile and hit the underwater target.
A torpedo is a cigar-shaped weapon that can be fired from a submarine, warship or fighter plane. This torpedo explodes with a bang the moment it comes into contact with its target. After introducing this missile system to the Navy, the naval capability of the Navy will increase significantly. This missile system will prove to be very important in anti-submarine warfare.
