Lucknow (May 01): Assistant priest Ashok Chaubey of the district’s famous Baripura Siddhapeeth was brutally beaten to death in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district late on Tuesday night. As soon as the news of the killing came to light, there was anger across the area. The Baripur temple mahant and hundreds of followers reached the medical college, where a conversation took place between the SP and the mahant. Deceased assistant priest Ashok Chaubey is said to be a resident of Tenua Chaubey village. There was a fight with a person called Hausla Paswan from the same village over playing DJ.
The deceased priest informed about this at Bhaluwani police station, but SHO Archana Singh ignored the matter. On Tuesday, members of Paswan’s Hausa family gathered again and attacked the assistant priest’s house. Several members of the priest’s family were injured in this incident and the priest died during treatment.
Gopal Das, temple mahant of Baripur, said that many complaints have been made to the police that the people of the Paswan community are drinking intoxicants and fighting. But the police did not take any action in this regard. The assistant priest Ashok Chaubey was murdered for this reason. SP Sankalpa Sharma reached the spot and got complete information and arrested many people in connection with the case and further action is being taken, he said.
