Sheetala Ashtami 2024: Shitala Ashtami is celebrated on Ashtami Krishna Paksha in the month of Chaitra. Sheetala Ashtami is also known by the name Basoda. On this day, old food is offered to Mother Shitala. In the scriptures, Sheetala Mata was described as the health-giving goddess. In some places, Sheetala Mata is worshiped on Saptami of Krishna Paksha of the month of Chaitra and in some places on Ashtami. Saptami tithi lord is Surya and Ashtami god is Shiva. Mother Sheetala can be worshiped on these two dates. According to Nirman Sindhu, the sunrise date of Vyappini is taken in this fast. Therefore, one should worship and fast on Saptami on Thursday. Shitalashtami will be celebrated on Friday.

Importance of Shitala Ashtami fast-
It is believed that by observing this fast, a person gets freedom from many types of diseases. Worshiping Sheetala Maa on Sheetala Ashtami day prevents diseases like small pox, measles, Badi Mata, Chhoti Mata. Ashtami signifies a change of season. This is the reason why one has to take full care of cleanliness to avoid this change, and it is believed that stale food is not eaten after this Ashtami.

Shitala Ashtami method of worship
-First of all, wake up early in the morning on Sheetala Ashtami and take a bath.
-Keep curd, pua, roti, millet, sweet rice made on Saptami, salt pare and mathri in the puja plate.
-In the second plate, keep a lamp made of flour, roli, clothes, Akshat, turmeric, moli, Holi garland, coins and henna.
-Keep a pot of cold water together with the two plates.
-Now worship Sheetala Mata.
-After offering everything to the Mother Goddess, give turmeric tilak to yourself and all the members of the house.
-In the temple, first offer water to the Mother Goddess and apply roli and turmeric.
-Offering Mehndi, Moli and clothes to the Mother Goddess.
-Offer the unlit flour lamp to the Mother Goddess.
-Finally, offer water back and save some water and give it to all the members of the house to apply on the eyes. Spray the rest of the water all over the house.
-After this, go to the place where Holika Dahan happens and worship. Offer some water and worship material there.
-After coming home, perform puja in the water storage place.
-If there is any worship material left then give it to a cow or a Brahmin.
