The future of thousands of school teachers in West Bengal hangs in the balance. After the Calcutta High Court’s decision, the appointment of more than 25,700 teachers may be cancelled. However, in the latest development, the West Bengal School Education Commission (West Bengal SSC) has told the Supreme Court that appointments of only 5300 teachers are in doubt. The commission said appointments of 19,000 teachers may be valid. The commission informed the High Court that after the order was issued on April 22, the recruitment of approximately 19,000 teachers may be cancelled, however, according to the conditions decided by the commission, the appointments of these teachers can be valid.

Let us tell you that according to the order of the Calcutta High Court, the recruitment of teachers in 2016 should be cancelled. If the court order remains in place, 25,753 teachers may lose their jobs. The High Court said in its strict order that the teachers who benefited from illegal appointments will also have to return their wages . Currently, the West Bengal government has challenged the High Court order in this regard in the Supreme Court.
