Two sisters died by drowning in Sukhandia (Mandeya) river near Arjundih village in Chhatarpur police station area of Palamu district. Both of them had gone to that area to pick Mahua. They both drowned while bathing in the river. The girls have been identified as 10-year-old Aapda Khatoon and 8-year-old Azra Khatoon, daughter of Rashid Ansari, who lives in Arjundih. The bodies of both have been removed from the river and sent for a post-mortem. It is said that around noon the two sisters went to pick Mahua near the village.
Along with Aapda and Azra, three girls from the village also went to Mahua.
