The Congress on Friday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president JP Nadda are resorting to polarization as they fear the party will lose the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. They also accused the prime minister of continuing to “lie” about the Congress or Banai Petra election manifesto and of spreading divisive and communal messages.

In a video posted on his X, Congress MP and General Secretary (Communication) Jairam Ramesh said, “The Prime Minister has proved once again by what he said in Bihar that he cannot speak the truth about the Congress Nai Patra even by accident.”

The senior Congress leader said Prime Minister Modi’s comment that the Congress manifesto contained a reference to 55% inheritance tax was a “total lie”, accusing the Prime Minister of running a false and misleading campaign. “But then, what can we expect from the Prime Minister? He is constantly trying to divert attention from unemployment, rising prices, economic inequality and everyday problems of the common people,” he said.

Ramesh also said that Prime Minister Modi must have felt that if he kept repeating a lie, “one day, somewhere, someone will believe it,” and claimed that instead of “Modi neck (Gal)” in Israel, there was only “Modi Zohar (poison)”.

On two other issues that the BJP has raised hue and cry about – redistribution of wealth and Congress’s alleged plans to strip Dalits of reservations and offer them to Muslims – Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has released another video showing his interview, in which he notes that the Congress was the first party to implement the OBC reservations in Karnataka, through the efforts of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the then Chief Minister Devraj Urs.
