Innisfil residents are being urged to take proactive measures with the spring thaw and more rain creating the potential risk of flooding.

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is expecting 45 millimeters of rain over the next few days, prompting a Shoreline Hazard Watch.

Although the situation is not new for the residents of Innisfil, especially those in flood prone areas, the threat of high water levels remains.

The Town noted the challenges that increasing lake levels have on the ability of crews to “direct water overland effectively to the lake.”

Residents are encouraged to clear gutters of debris to aid drainage, check that sump pumps are working properly to avoid water building up in basements, be careful around waterways, and prepare a flood kit.

Flood packs should contain enough essential items to last 72 hours in case relocation is necessary.
