Pakistan: Former Pakistani cricketer, Imran Khan, at home before the vote! Imran was preparing to contest the upcoming general elections. This ruling from the special court is a big blow to him. Because, due to the sentence of 10 years in prison, the way to fight the elections is closed for now, according to the politicians. Moreover, the court has given clear instructions that Imran will not be able to hold any government post for the next 10 years

Last month Pakistan’s anti-corruption agency charged Imran Khan and his wife with possessing a jewelery set from the Saudi crown prince, according to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper. In addition, Imran Khan was accused by Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency of leaking diplomatic information to the country. Imran Khan himself claimed that the US threatened to remove him from the post of Prime Minister.

A special court in Pakistan reopened Cipher’s trial last month. On December 13, Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi were charged for the second time in the case. The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan are both currently in jail. They were first charged in the case in October. However, none of them pleaded guilty.

The Islamabad High Court declared the government’s prison trial notification ‘false’, and the entire process was quashed because of it. It is worth noting that Donald Lu was the US Ambassador to Pakistan at the time. He currently serves as Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs.
