The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s petition. In an affidavit filed on Wednesday, he described Kejriwal as the main conspirator in the money laundering case related to Delhi’s excise policy. Also, the central agency claimed that although several subpoenas were issued, he did not cooperate.

The summons was sent nine times

The ED opposed Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest, saying that Kejriwal played a central role in committing the crime of money laundering in connivance with Delhi government ministers, AAP leaders and others. At the same time, the affidavit also said that the Chief Minister of Delhi was summoned nine times, but he did not appear.

The arrest is in place

It is worth noting that Kejriwal appealed the decision of the Delhi High Court, which upheld his arrest and detention by the ED. The Supreme Court, while issuing a notice on Kejriwal’s petition, directed the ED to file its reply by April 24. It was also reported that the hearing in the case will take place the week of April 29.

It would be arbitrary to treat habitual offenders differently.

The affidavit said that the arrest of a person for committing a crime based on substance, however great, can never violate the concept of free and fair elections. Treating the leader differently from a criminal would be arbitrary and a violation of the authority of arrest.

Guilty in the money laundering case

The affidavit said that the material in the IO’s possession confirmed that he was guilty in the money laundering case. ED says that Kejriwal was properly arrested and not due to malicious or extraneous reasons. The agency said it categorically denies that the arrest was malicious.
