It is very hard to believe that the Chief Minister of the State will drive himself to vote… standing in line for hours, just like ordinary voters stand in line to vote. This scene was seen in Meghalaya’s Tura Lok Sabha constituency, where Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad Sangma himself went to the polling booth. He also waited patiently for about two hours to vote.

Sangma was hoping that if he reached the polling station and matriculated at 6:30 am, he would be among the early voters and be able to vote early. However, they had to wait a long time to exercise their franchise. The prime minister had to stand in line for about two hours to vote.

The Chief Minister said that he also gave concessions to his security personnel, drivers and crew members to give them a chance to vote. As he chose to travel from his residence to the polling booth, Sangma emphasized the importance of each person exercising their democratic right.

He said, definitely use your franchise. This is your voice, your power and your future. Every vote counts. According to him, when I arrived at the polling station at around 6:30 in the morning, there were about 200 people present at the polling station, which is a good message that people are enthusiastically participating in the voting process. Very good turnout can be seen in these elections.
