Apologize to the nation for campaigning for ‘mass rape’, Rahul says to Modi

Shivamogga: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called Janata Dal (Secular) leader and MP Hasan Prajwal Ravana a “mass rapist” and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologize to the nation for campaigning for such a candidate.

Prajawal Ravana is the NDA candidate from the same constituency in the Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing election rallies in Raichur and Shivamuga on Thursday, Gandhi came down heavily on the BJP’s national leadership for “supporting Prajwal Ravana”.

In a speech in Shivamogga he said: “The case of Prajwal Ravana is not just a sex scandal. It is a case of mass rape.” He alleged that Modi knew about his case when he campaigned for the accused in the Lok Sabha elections.

“The prime minister should apologize to the nation for campaigning on his behalf,” Gandhi demanded.

In Raichur, he presented a copy of the letter written by a local BJP leader in Hassan, Devaraje Gowda, to senior party leaders on Prajwal Revanna’s alleged sex crimes and asked why Modi shared the stage with the accused “despite knowing the facts”.

Gandhi said: “Prajwal Ravana sexually assaulted about 400 women and recorded the offense on video. Even after being informed about Prajawal Ravana’s sex crimes, the [Union] The interior minister said nothing. The Prime Minister then shared a stage with Prajwal Ravana and asked for votes for him… I would like to ask the mothers and sisters of this country why Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought votes for this man even after knowing his sexual crimes.” Gandhi also blamed the Prime Minister and [Union] The Minister of the Interior for allowing the accused to escape from India despite knowing his sexual crimes.

“The prime minister has all the agencies like CBI, customs department and immigration department under him and he could have got him [Prajwal Revanna] in a second But he did not stop him but let him escape from the country. Now, the Chief Minister is afraid to come to Karnataka. He canceled all his appointments. But the women of Karnataka know that you protected Prajuwal Ravana because you wanted his power and alliance,” Gandhi wrote.

At a Shivamuga rally, he alleged that BJP president JP Nadda had attacked the Indian constitution by calling those who advocate equality “Naxals” in an interview.

“The Indian constitution, for which BR Ambedkar’s contribution was significant, has clearly emphasized the need for equality. However, the BJP president threw away the constitution with his statement,” he said.

“This is the first election where the BJP has clearly stated that they want to change the constitution. But the Congress has tried to protect it,” he said, showing a copy of the constitution he was carrying.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s statement that he would defend the Constitution, Gandhi wanted to know whether he had such an intention and why the party president was attacking the law.

“If Dalits, OBCs and Adisis demand equality, you call them Naxals. There can be no greater attack on the Indian Constitution than his [BJP president’s] statement,” he said.
