Chandigarh News: Wheat procurement starts from April 1, all arrangements have been completed

Even before the start of harvesting of Rabi season crop (Wheat Crop), all the preparations have been completed by the Punjab government and orders have also been given to officials across Punjab in this regard that farmers should not face problems under any circumstances. To see these preparations and take stock of the wheat procurement arrangements in Punjab, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma on Wednesday met the procurement agencies concerned.

Orders have been issued while holding a meeting with the Deputy Commissioners of all the areas through video conferencing together with the officers. Verma has asked that there should be no shortage in any area when procurement of wheat starts from April 1. Therefore, all officers concerned have been asked to start duty from now on so that all the arrangements are completed to make it smooth.

Verma said that wheat has been sown in an area of ​​35.07 lakh hectares in Punjab and production of 161.30 lakh metric tonnes of wheat is expected. A Cash Credit Limit (CCL) of Rs 30,776.36 crore is required for purchase and out of this Rs 27077.91 crore has been received for the month of April and the remaining amount will be taken for the month of May. 1908 regular procurement centers have been declared by the Punjab Mandi Board and these will be allocated to various agencies as per the proposal of the procurement agencies. The Chief Secretary told the Deputy Commissioners that farmers should not face any problem during procurement and along with smooth procurement arrangements in the mandis, special care should also be taken of the basic facilities. The farmers should be paid immediately after purchase so that no farmer faces any problem. He told the Deputy Commissioners on the spot in the meeting that any pending issue related to the procurement agency should be brought to their attention immediately, so that there is no problem during the procurement.
