ISLAMABAD (Zubair Kasuri) Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has formed an Interim Digital Committee for the Digital Nation Pakistan initiative.
In a notification on April 17, the Federal Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications appointed digital expert Tania S. Ideres as convener of the Interim Digital Committee. The notification has been issued with the approval of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Furthermore, he informed that the Minister of State will be the chairman of the IT and Telecommunications Committee, and Tania S. Edrus will be the convener. Other members include the IT and Telecommunications Secretary, Dr. Sohail Munir, Salman Ahmed, Muhammad Ali Raza, and one member elected with the support of the Chairman.

The purpose of the committee is to provide interim leadership and lay the groundwork for the formal establishment of the National Digital Commission (NDC) and the Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA), the notification said. The committee will present its recommendations to the government regarding digital vision.
Tania Idris previously served as the former head of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Digital Pakistan Initiative, but resigned from her post on 29 June 2020 after being heavily criticized by the organization and the opposition for holding dual citizenship.
A senior official of the ministry has said that a similar committee was formed during the time of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and efforts were made for Digital Pakistan. A new committee has now been formed and Tania has been reappointed.
Sources told Ausaf daily that Tania was appointed Special Assistant to the then Prime Minister on the recommendation of Jahangir Tareen. However, under pressure from the opposition and reports from law enforcement agencies, he was sacked for holding a foreign passport.
