West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday accused the BJP of using the money to spread confusion about Sandeshkhali. He called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop shedding crocodile tears as the conspiracy hatched by the BJP was exposed in the latest sting.
Banerjee accused the Election Commission of acting at the behest of the Modi government and turning a blind eye when it ran a full-page advertisement with her picture in a section of the print press. He said, when you (Narendra Modi) are so confident of getting people’s support for your schemes, then why do you need to publish your picture in newspapers? Voting is underway and the model code of conduct is in effect. I know the newspaper may have compulsions. Banerjee was addressing an election rally in Bolpur in support of Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Asit Kumar Mal and candidate Birbhum Shatabadi Roy.
The Trinamool Congress chief said her party is considering approaching the Election Commission on this issue. He said, if we want to decorate the statue of Rabindranath Tagore on his birthday, we have to get permission from the commission. The election committee sits inactive, that’s why things like this happen.
Regarding the blank message, Banerjee said, BJP has concocted a gross lie. He conspired by paying several people to lie. In the alleged video, the man is heard saying that the officer asked him and other BJP leaders from the area to instigate three-four local women to level rape allegations against three TMC leaders, including Shahjahan Sheikh. Banerjee said, did anyone imagine that BJP would stoop so low as to spread false rumors about Sandeshkhali? Don’t insult the mothers of West Bengal by making such vile allegations. TMC can’t run away from charges: official
At the same time, the officer rejected Banerjee’s claims and said that Kyle’s voice in the video was artificially created.
