The political atmosphere in West Bengal has heated up since the start of the Lok Sabha elections. Ever since the Sandashkali affair came to light, BJP has been constantly raising the issue of women’s protection. Meanwhile, the party has now accused Trinamool Congress leader and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee of making obscene remarks against the BJP’s woman candidate. A complaint was also submitted to the Election Commission.
What does BJP’s complaint say?
A letter written to the Election Commission on behalf of BJP leader Shishir Bajoria said TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had made obscene and misogynistic remarks against BJP MLA and BJP candidate from 8 Malda South, Shrirupa Mitra Choudhary. This letter states that Abhishek made this comment during a public meeting on April 23, 2024.
The letter states that a Member of Parliament, who is also the General Secretary of the ruling party of West Bengal, and whose Chief Minister is also a woman, makes lewd comments against a woman in this manner. The BJP leader claimed that this was a direct violation of the code of conduct and the National Commission for Women also sought a report from the DGP of West Bengal on this statement.
