Discovery of a 10th Century Sun God Idol!
A 10th century idol of Suryadev (Sun) was found in the farmland of Harijan Vanurappa at Kalagodu village in Gummagatta mandal of Anantapur district. Nagendra, son of Vanurappa, was plowing the field when his plow hit a stone. After digging, an idol of the Sun God was found.
A two feet granite stone idol was struck. Rayadurga Heritage Society Secretary Gudekota Sivakumar was immediately informed, who inspected and cleaned the idol and sent his photos to Vijayawada and Amravati Cultural Center CEO Emani Siva Nagireddy.
An idol belonging to the period of the Nolamba kings!
Based on the sculptural style of the idol, historians have confirmed that it belongs to the period of the Nolamba kings who ruled the region (large parts of Karnataka and parts of Andhra Pradesh) for over 300 years.
