Dhananjay Pandey|Muzaffarpur May 1 is Labor Day. Seminars and seminar days will be held in different places in the city, where the situation and intentions of the workers will be discussed. Even if it has no effect on the ground. Earlier it was said that if you get nothing then you can feed your family by working as a labourer. But, the demand for smart workers is also growing in the labor market. In the city, laborers from nearby villages come to Pani Tanki Chowk, Lakshmi Chowk, Agoria Bazaar, Chatta Chowk, Bairiya and Bhagwanpur and other junctions in search of work. They come with lunch from home hoping to get a job somewhere. But, there is daily competition here for the daily wage work. Along with talent, those who have better communication skills get jobs quickly. Those who have work come to these junctions in search of labourers. Let’s wait a while and see who deserves their job. Whoever suits you, let’s call him and talk. When you are good at conversation, they take you to work. There is also an off-season in the job market. People don’t want to do any work especially on rainy days. Even in winter, the days are short, so people only do work when it is absolutely necessary. Arjun from Mushahari said he doesn’t get a job every day. When work stops, it is difficult to manage family expenses. 60-year-old Jaganu Ram, who came hoping to get a job, said that every time he leaves home, he worries whether he will get a job or not. If you work hard all day, your family gets two square meals a day. Many times it is already afternoon and we have to go back. If someone comes, he wants to take only the new boys first. Rambhu Sehani said that he has been working as a laborer for 15 years. Now when someone comes to do work, they also look at the way they dress and talk. If people are not very educated then no one wants to take them even to pick up mud and mortar. By March 2024, the Ministry of Labor has registered 25.21 lakh workers in the state. In this, 1.22 lakh Muzaffarpur workers are registered. Maximum 2.51 lakh workers are registered in Patna. A maximum of 1.61 lakh laborers were registered in West Champaran in North Bihar.
