The Supreme Court has given a major relief to Samir Kulkarni, one of the accused in the 2008 Malgaon bomb blast case. The Supreme Court stayed the trial court proceedings against Kulkarni. This is an interim stay, which will last until further orders. While hearing Kulkarni’s plea, the court said the sanction taken to prosecute Sameer under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) was not appropriate. Therefore, conducting a trial against him is illegal.

The next hearing in the case will be held on July 23.
