Kolkata: SawaM Gautamandji Maharaj was elected the 17th President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. This information is given in an official announcement.
Swami Gautamandji Maharaj succeeded Swami Smaranandji Maharaj, who passed away in Kolkata last month. Swami Gautamandji Maharaj (95) was elected at the meeting of the board of trustees of the monastery and the governing body of the mission held at Belur Math on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Swami Gautmanji Maharaj on being elected as the 17th President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.
“My heartiest congratulations to His Holiness Swami Gautmanji Maharaj on his election as the President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission,” PM Modi said in a post on ‘X’. I am confident that he will guide our society to greater wisdom and compassion.”
He said, “Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission occupy a very special place in the lives of countless Indians. His efforts to popularize the ideals of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Maha Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda are noteworthy.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also congratulated the new president of the Ramakrishna Mission.

Born in 1929 in Bengaluru, Swami Gautmanji came in contact with the Bengaluru branch of the Ramakrishna Mission and joined it in the mid-1950s.
