SRINAGAR: Kashmir University (KU) on Thursday marked a historic moment as it fielded its Men’s and Women’s cricket teams to participate in the ‘All India Six-a-side Cricket Tournament’. The event is scheduled to be held at Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur from 28 March 2024.

This marks the first ever participation of the KU cricket teams in a national level tournament, showcasing the growing talent of Kashmiri cricket talent, an official spokesperson said in a statement issued here, adding that the KU cricket teams are ready for their first match. scheduled for 29 March.

“The university is committed to promoting sporting activities and reiterates all possible support towards encouraging a vibrant sporting culture across the university’s campuses,” he added.

DPES Director Dr Mandeep Singh assured that there will be a better calendar of sports activities in the coming academic year, the spokesperson said.

“Both coaches are optimistic about the performance of the teams and are confident of having a commendable display in the tournament,” he added.

Dean, Student Welfare, Prof. Aneesa Shafi, Prof. Mehraj of KU Sanskrit Department and Cultural Officer, Student Welfare Department also attended the event, the statement added.
