RCMP are looking for a pickup truck after pedestrians were killed in a hit-and-run east of Innisfail Achi-News

RCMP are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian they believe was struck by a pickup truck while walking on a central Alberta highway Thursday morning.

In a news release, the RCMP said officers were called to a collision on Highway 590, approximately 22 kilometers east of Innisfail, at 8:14 a.m. They said the incident occurred near the intersection of Highway 590 and Highway 805.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found a person dead “in the south ditch of Highway 590.” They did not state the age of the victim but said he was a man.

According to police, investigators believe the victim was dressed in black clothing and was walking westbound on Highway 590.

“He was last seen alive walking on the highway at approximately 6:30 in the morning,” said the RCMP. “Between 6:30am and 8:09am, he was struck by a vehicle believed to be traveling eastbound on Highway 590.”

Shortly before 1pm, the RCMP said officers were still at the scene to investigate. They said investigators believe the vehicle involved is a “2019 or older Chevrolet pickup truck or GMC 2500 or 3500 HD.

The police added that they believe the lorry will have sustained damage to its passenger side.

The RCMP said investigators are hoping to speak with any driver who was in the area at the time of the collision. They are hoping that someone will be able to show them dashcam footage that could help with the investigation.

“Police are not releasing the identity of the victim at this time,” the RCMP said.
