Pandya, who recently represented India during the 2023 World Cup match against Bangladesh, has faced injury setbacks, leading to his absence from key series against Australia and South Africa.

Although Pandya returned to fitness in January, he cited the lack of playing opportunities as the reason for his late return to competitive cricket.

Eventually, he made his comeback in the DY Patil tournament before taking over as the captain of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.

Pathan expressed disappointment at Pandya’s limited impact on the team’s success, particularly noting India’s failure to win the World Cup. Injuries plagued Pandya’s career, prompting his unofficial retirement from Test cricket due to physical limitations.

Despite returning to fitness in early 2022, Pandya’s role as a bowling all-rounder has been overshadowed by concerns about his fitness.

"What I feel about Hardik Pandya is that Indian cricket should make it clear that they should not prioritize him as much as they have given him so far because we are yet to win the World Cup. And if you think you’re an all-important player, you need to make an impact at the international level. In terms of the instrument, it has not made that impact at the international level, we only think of the potential. We get confused between the IPL shows and the international shows. That’s a big difference." Pathan said at Star Sports Room Press Show.

Moreover, Pathan advocated denying Pandya the freedom to participate selectively in series and tournaments, stressing the importance of collective effort in achieving success.

Pathan referred to Australia’s successful team dynamic, stressing the need for multiple contributors rather than relying solely on individual performances.
