The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced on Thursday that there would be a show of street power up on Sunday for the autonomy of the judiciary and the release of prisoner number 804 – the founder of the party Imran Khan – imprisoned in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi.

“The PTI is going to hold a rally for the independence of the judiciary on the directives issued by the founder of PTI,” said the Chairman of the party, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, speaking to the media after meeting Imran Khan.

Earlier, the Adiala jail authorities allowed 11 leaders and members of the legal team of the PTI to meet Imran Khan. These stalwarts included Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Shoaib Shaheen, Sher Afzal Marwat, Faisal Javaid, Zartaj Gul, Amir Niazi, and others.

“Soon we will write a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan on behalf of the PTI founder, while Imran Khan in his message from jail has expressed complete solidarity with the cause of judicial freedom,” said Barrister Gohar.

This development comes after six IHC judges – Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz – wrote to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to convene a judicial convention on the issue of alleged interference by members of the executive, including intelligence agency operatives, in judicial matters.

Speaking on the occasion, Marwat said that a rally would be held in Peshawar at 2pm on Sunday. “PTI invites all parties to participate in the rally.”

He said that on April 6, PTI leaders and activists would fill the Islamabad Parade Ground. “Our rally will be peaceful and the ultimate goal is to get Khan out of jail.”

To a question, Marwat said that the judges’ letter to the Supreme Court talks about the pressure they face in carrying out their professional duties.

Venting his anger at the supremacy of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif, PTI leader Latif Khosa said that a convicted criminal was given red carpet protocol from London.

He added: “All cases of Nawaz Sharif and his family have been closed. All the prominent figures of Pakistan have written letters regarding the pressure facing the judges of the high courts.”

Earlier, Gohar also said that the government had allowed all other vehicles to pass, but the PTI cars were stopped outside the jail, forcing them to walk one kilometer on foot to meet the party founder.

“We have informed the Jail Superintendent about the roadblock and also requested permission to take our documents with us,” said Barrister Gohar.
