The election campaign has also started in full swing for the Lok Sabha seats of Delhi. Voting for all seven seats will take place in the sixth phase on May 25. This time, the Congress fielded JP Aggarwal, a four-time MP from Delhi, from the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat. Aggarwal was previously a three-time MP from the Chandni Chowk seat. The special thing is that JP Aggarwal is the oldest candidate in the capital. He was born on November 11, 1944 in Chandni Chowk, Delhi’s historic market. He has been associated with politics for a long time. He is about to contest the Lok Sabha elections for the tenth time. Amar Ujla Digital had a special conversation with JP Aggarwal on various issues related to Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat.

In a discussion with Amar Ojla, Congress candidate JP Aggarwal says that during the last 10 years no development work of any kind took place in the area and in a way there was complete darkness. When I came to know that I have to contest elections from here (Chandni Chowk), I started thinking about which issues I should raise first. However, I noticed that there is not a single issue here that the work on has started. Therefore, now we will have to work hard from the beginning on the issues of the region and from the first day you will hear my voice in the parliament. In the last ten years, the people of Chandni Chowk constituency have to face many problems, but not a single question has been raised in the Parliament, related to the people or the businessmen of the area.

About BJP candidate, JP Aggarwal says I know he (Praveen Khandelwal) is BJP candidate. BJP has been at the center for the last 10 years but it has failed 100 percent in working for the poor. BJP once won only two seats in the Lok Sabha, but today it is in power. So every election is different and things change over time. There is no doubt that in 2024, All India candidates will win all the seats in Delhi. Our government will be established in the center.

On contesting the elections with the AAP party, JP Aggarwal says the Modi government at the Center has a dictatorial attitude. They use the money to break governments, abuse the Enforcement Directorate against elected leaders and put chief ministers in jail. This method is wrong and no one likes it. Aam Aadmi Party and Congress raised their voice against this government and hence both parties are fighting Lok Sabha elections together this time.

JP Aggarwal says development of Chandni Chowk area is not the only issue in Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat. Old Delhi, also known as Shahjahanabad, has its own problems. We need to work on our outer areas where there are multi-storied apartments, lot areas and JJ clusters and solve their problems as well. Therefore, development work will be done taking into account all areas. A separate plan will need to be prepared for everyone.

Aggarwal further says that beautifying a place means creating a comfortable environment for the people living in that area. I believe that the beautification (of Chandni Chowk) will improve the facilities provided to people in the wholesale market, which is probably one of the largest markets in Asia. Destroying markets, imposing Goods and Services Tax (GST) and various laws on traders is not beautifying to me.

Aggarwal started politics in 1983 from Delhi Municipal Corporation. He was elected head of the council at that time. He then became the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The Congress then fielded the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat in the 1994 Lok Sabha elections. By winning these elections, he reached the Lok Sabha for the first time. Then he won for the second time in the 1989 Lok Sabha elections. Although he lost the 1991 elections, he won again in the 1996 elections. JP Aggarwal was nominated by the Congress to the Rajya Sabha in 2006. He remained a Rajya Sabha MP till 2009 and then made it to Parliament by winning the Northeast Delhi Lok Sabha constituency in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
