A group of lawyers has expressed great concern by writing a letter to the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on the issue of the political agenda of defaming the judiciary. In the letter, it was said in a tone of complaint to the CJI that absurd arguments are given to put pressure on the judiciary in political matters, to influence the judicial process and to refute the orders of the court. The agenda is carried out systematically, it is a threat to the democratic system.
Among the 600 lawyers who sent letters to CJI Chandrachud, prominent lawyers like Harish Salve, Bar Council of India President Manan Kumar Mishra, Supreme Court Bar Association President Adish Aggarwal, Pinky Anand, Hitesh Jain are also included. Lawyers have asked the Supreme Court to bring proceedings against the attacks on the judiciary.

Without naming any political party, the letter expresses concern about the fact that the judiciary is being defamed as part of an agenda. Lawyers have expressed concern about such attempts to undermine the integrity of the judiciary. The letter said that efforts are being made to influence the judiciary and defame the courts in politically sensitive cases. Not only this, a false narrative is being created about the current and past cases of the judiciary to weaken public confidence in the court.

In the letter, lawyers have said that while directly attacking the honor of the judges, allegations such as setting up a bench are also fabricated. If the court gives a decision in favor then it is good and if it gives against it then it is wrong, such a strategy is run according to the political agenda. If a politician is accused of corruption, questions are raised against the court itself.
False information is spread to influence judicial appointments and outcomes. Such activities start during the election period, and the same was done in 2018-19 as well. In the letter, the lawyers have asked the Supreme Court to take appropriate protective measures against these attacks, noting the importance of maintaining the integrity of the judiciary.
Lawyers have said that we are asking the Supreme Court to take action to protect our courts from these attacks. Remaining silent or doing nothing can inadvertently give more power to those who wish to harm the judiciary. This is not the time to maintain a dignified silence about such efforts. This has been happening many times for a few years now. In the letter, the lawyers have told the CJI that your leadership is important in this difficult time. We have confidence in you and all the honorable judges that you will lead us on these matters and keep our courts strong.
