Saree is the identity of India. From Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari, women are seen wearing saree in every state, every district, every city and every town, only the style of dressing is different. Ever since the rise of social media, sarees have started being worn in new styles.

According to the book Sari: Tradition and Beyond written by Rata Kapoor Chishti, saree is worn in more than 108 ways in India.

But in today’s modern era, blouse has almost disappeared from saree whereas there was a time when saree was considered incomplete without blouse. Today, most of the Bollywood actresses wear sarees but the blouse that is traditionally worn is not a part of their styling.

Actresses like Deepika Padukone, Kiara Advani, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif started the trend of wearing bralette with saree. This is the reason why today’s modern bride does not like long sleeves and navel length blouses with lehenga.

Not only this, on every occasion be it a birthday, birthday party, get together… now women have started wearing a bralette instead of a blouse.

a bra is not a bralette

Some women remain confused between a bra and a bralette. Fashion designer Bhavna Jindal says ‘bralet’ doesn’t mean ‘bra’ at all. This garment is versatile and can be paired with many dresses. Bralette is kept in the category of crop top.

Bras are made to support the breasts, which have cups of different sizes. Roughly divided into A, B, C cup sizes.

Bralettes are made from a lightweight fabric. It has a light pad. It can be made in flexible sizes with many designs and patterns. It is also available in small, medium, large or XL, XXL, XXXL sizes. As its fabric is light, it is a perfect choice with saree in summer season.

Bralettes look amazing on sarees. The lace bralette is skin friendly as well as extremely comfortable. It also has hooks that can be adjusted according to size. The breasts are completely covered by a lace bralette. If a lace bralette is worn instead of a blouse, it gives the body a slim look.

Poly cotton bralet is perfect with saree

A polycotton bralette has a blouse-like design. It gives a glamorous look when worn with lehenga and chiffon saree. Due to the cotton fabric, it does not cause sweating and does not have to face any skin problems.

Full coverage bralettes also look like blouses. These act as a perfect style statement for women with heavy breasts. The neckline of such a bralet is not deep.

Strapless bralette to look like celebs

Most of the Bollywood actresses like to wear strapless bralette. It has no straps. It looks like a tube top. For a bold look, this bralet can be worn with a shimmery or heavy work saree. This bralette adds glamor to the look when worn with a saree at a cocktail party.

When Deepika Padukone wore this bralette in the song ‘Besharam Rang’ from the movie ‘Pathan’, her popularity increased further. A strapless bralette looks best on a medium breast size.

At the same time, women whose bust line is not heavy and height is also small, they should wear a jaw dropping bralette of deep neck, V neck or scoop neck. This will make their height appear taller.

Whereas, there is a long line bralette up to the length of the blouse. Because of this the skin also does not show much.

In India, the trend of wearing a blouse with a saree started during the British Raj. Before this, saree was worn without blouse. Blouses were worn with sarees for the first time in the 1920s. In fact, in the Victorian era, a dress without a blouse was considered bad. When the British conquered India, the British started the custom of wearing a blouse with a saree. After his arrival, large numbers of blouses began to be imported from Britain.

There is another story behind the blouse. After this she started wearing a blouse. He is credited with popularizing the blouse in India.
