Surat: A 27-year-old man who worked as a manager in a wire factory was arrested on Saturday for alleged Bullying Polish off Editor in Chief of Sudarshan TV channel, BJP Telangana MLA Raja Singh and former party spokesperson Nupur Sharma in association with his handlers from Pakistan and Nepal.
Commissioner of Police Anupam Singh Galout said that the accused Muhammad Sohal alias Maulvi Abubakr Timol (27), who also gave private lessons on Islam, was found to have conspired with people from Pakistan and Nepal to offer a million rupees “supari” (contract) and purchase weapons from Pakistan to kill The National President of the Hindu Sanatan Sangh, Upadesh Rana.
The Crime Branch (DCB) has been monitoring Timul’s activities for the past few weeks. Sources said that Timol and his associates were also under the surveillance of several central investigative agencies.
During the investigation, the officers found that Timul was previously arrested at Kamraj police station in Surat district for allegedly making some objectionable comments on social media during Ram Navami.
“His earlier arrest for social media comment and investigation in recent findings that he has developed a specific mindset,” Galout told TOI.
“We found several objectionable contents on his mobile phones, including the one regarding the offer of Rs 1 million for the murder of Afdesh Rana. For this, he was in constant touch with people/numbers from Pakistan and Nepal,” Galout said. “Timul was also involved in issuing threats to Rana in March this year. He used a virtual number from Laos to issue threats by connecting numbers from Pakistan and Nepal in his group chat,” he said.
“Photos and other details found on his phone number show that they discussed on a secure app targeting and threatening Sudarshan TV Editor-in-Chief Suresh Chavhanke, Nupur Sharma and Raja Singh. For this they planned to collect funds and purchase arms,” Glaut said.
They discussed the killing of Kamlesh Tiwari, president of the Uttar Pradesh-based Hindu Samaj Party, who was killed on October 18, 2019 in Lucknow.
The chat records showed that Timul wanted to kill Rana soon to disturb the communal harmony during the ongoing general elections, Gallaut said.
From a preliminary investigation it emerged that he was contacted by two people identified as Dugar and Shahnaz with phone numbers belonging to Pakistan and Nepal, respectively, about a year and a half ago.
On the chat app, he wrote anti-Hinduism speeches and threatened Rana that he would be killed like Kamlesh Tiwari, police said, adding that a member of his chat group had sent Rana’s picture with an offer of Rs 1 million to kill him.
“Taimur used social media to spread communal hostility, to upload images of the Indian national flag and make seditious comments in posts or videos about Hinduism. He created false electronic records and ordered weapons from foreign handlers,” the Crime Branch press release said.
