The Meghalaya High Court rejects the petition of Knesset member Adelbert Nongrum. At the same time, the court upheld the decision of Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma, in which he disallowed a special motion demanding to discuss the CAG report during this year’s budget session. Let us tell you, Nongram is the leader of the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) and is the MLA from Shillong North. The ombudsman did not approve the special request submitted by the MLA, following which he appealed the ombudsman’s decision at the High Court.

Justice HS Thangkhew, in his order, said that the Speaker’s decision cannot be said to be illegal or unconstitutional despite the fact that the matter involves a matter of grave public importance. Judicial review is not available under Article 212 of the Constitution, and hence the application cannot be considered. Therefore it was rejected.
