New Delhi (April 26): Voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections will be held on Friday (today) in 88 constituencies in 13 states and Union Territories. Voting for all 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala, 14 out of 28 seats in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, 8 each in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, 6 each in Madhya Pradesh, 5 each in Assam and Bihar, three one each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal and one each in Manipur, Tripura and Jammu & Kashmir.

Earlier, voting was to be held for 89 constituencies at this time. But the polling in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul was rescheduled after the death of a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate. Elections in Betul will now be held in the third phase on May 7.

In 2019, the BJP-led NDA won 56 of these 89 seats, while the opposition UPA won 24 seats.

The main contenders include Union Minister Rajiv Chandrasekhar, BJP’s Tejashwi Surya, Hema Malini and Arun Govil, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy of the JD(S).

Karnataka Congress leader popularly known as ‘Star Chandru’, Congress candidate from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency Venkataramanegowda is the richest candidate in the second phase of the poll, according to an analysis of affidavits by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and the National . DK Suresh, sitting Congress MP from Karnataka, is the second richest candidate with assets worth ₹593 crore. Shri Suresh, younger brother of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, is a three-time MP seeking re-election from Bengaluru Rural. According to his election affidavit, he has bank deposits of ₹16.61 crore, agricultural land in 21 plots worth ₹32.76 crore, non-agricultural land in 27 plots worth ₹210.47 crore, nine commercial buildings worth ₹211.91 crore and three residential buildings. worth ₹ 27.13 crore.

BJP MP Hema Malini, who is contesting again from the Mathura Lok Sabha seat, is the third richest with assets of ₹ 278 crore.

Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Sanjay Sharma is fourth on the list. He has declared assets worth ₹232 crore.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Mandya alliance candidate HD Kumaraswamy is fifth on the list and has total assets of ₹ 217.21 crore.

Phase 2 Election 2024: 5 candidates with fewer assets
Laxman Nagarao Patil, contesting as an independent candidate from Nanded in Maharashtra, is the candidate with the least assets in the second phase. According to his election affidavit, he has declared assets worth ₹500.

After Mr. Patil, another independent candidate contested Rajeshwari KR from Kasaragod in Kerala and has assets worth ₹1,000.

Prithvisamrat Mukindra Rao, who contested as an independent candidate from Amravati (SC), is third in the Deepavansh list with total assets of ₹ 1,400 crore.

Dalit Kranti Dal leader Shahnaz Bano, who is contesting from Jodhpur in Rajasthan, has declared assets worth ₹2,000.

VP Kochumon, contesting from the Center for Socialist Unity of India (Communist) from Kottayam, Kerala, is fifth on the list with assets of ₹ 2,230 crore.

Phase 2 Surveys 2024: Applicants No Assets
The six candidates with no assets include Karnataka’s Prakash RA Jain, Ramamurthy M, and Raja Reddy.

Three other candidates with no assets are from Maharashtra – Kishora Bhimrao Labade, Nagesh Sambhaji Gaikwad and Dyaneshwar Ravsaheb Kapate.

After the second phase, voting will be held in Kerala, Rajasthan and Tripura. In the first phase of voting on April 19, Tamil Nadu (39), Uttarakhand (5), Arunachal Pradesh (2), Meghalaya (2), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (1), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Puducherry (1), Voting completed in all constituencies of Sikkim (1) and Lakshadweep (1).
