On the inclusion of all Muslims of Karnataka in OBC, the National Commission for Backward Classes said that the Karnataka government’s decision to provide reservations in government jobs and educational institutions by bringing all Muslims under OBC has done injustice to the genuine backward castes.

To spread the rights of the backward classes among the Muslims

Commission Chairman Hansraj Ahir on Wednesday said that the state government has divided the rights of backward classes among Muslims by including all 37 castes of Muslims in OBC by creating a new category of minority and other backward classes. This statement of the commission is important in context To Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s accusations, in which the Prime Minister said that the Congress wants to give a share to the Muslims in the Dalit, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes reservation.

The government gave this answer

The National Commission for Backward Classes has sought a response from the Backward Classes Welfare Department of the Government of Karnataka in this regard. The department replied that communities like Muslims and Christians are not castes, nor religions. According to the data of the Backward Class Welfare Department in the state of Karnataka, there are a total of 391 castes in the 4 percent reservation given to Backward Class Category 1 in the state, of which 17 are from the Muslim community. Similarly, out of 393 castes in category 2A, 19 Muslim castes are included. There is only one caste which gets 4 percent quota in category 2B and that is Muslim.

Muslims received about 16% reservation instead of 4%.

National Commission for Backward Classes chairman Hansraj Ahir said that the Congress government in Karnataka has wrongly recognized all Muslim castes as socially and educationally backward classes. They are listed separately as Muslim caste under category 2-B in the state’s list of backward classes for providing reservation in admissions and appointments in educational institutions. Thus, out of 930 seats under category 2B of the state, 102 Muslims got it. Muslims got about 16% reservation instead of 4%. Apart from this, Karnataka government gives reservation to 17 Muslim castes and 19 Muslim castes. Under category 2-A as socially and educationally backward classes. According to Ahir, the reservation given to backward classes in the elections to the local authorities is 32%, the reservation in the local bodies is not divided between backward class groups, i.e. category 1, category 2B, category 3A and category 3B.

12.92% Muslims in the country

According to the 2011 census, the Muslim population in Karnataka is 12.92% and the Muslim community (a religious minority) is considered a socially and educationally backward class. The caste system is not acceptable in the Muslim religion. However, in practice it cannot be said without question that Islam is completely immune and insensitive to racism.
