Gail Boag, executive director of learning at ICAS, said: “This year, we have 843 newly qualified JPs and it’s fantastic to see record numbers entering the profession. The increase in admissions reaffirms the strength of the CA ICAS qualification and its appeal to a new generation of jobseekers and employers alike.

“The CA qualification takes those who achieve it beyond accounting numbers and acts as a passport to the highest levels of business and finance. Testament to that is the fact that ICAS members hold senior positions in 83% of FTSE companies.”

He added: “Not only are we seeing record intakes, but we are also seeing an increasing number of people joining the profession from a wider socio-economic background, thanks in large part to the work being carried out by ICAS Foundation.”

The foundation plays a key role in expanding the talents in progress by supporting young people through their studies and providing individual support until they graduate”, said ICAS.

ICAS noted that 10 of the newly qualified YS this year have been supported by the organisation.

Chartered accountant Eryn Paterson, assistant audit manager at big four accountancy firm KPMG, is among those who have benefited from the support of the ICAS Foundation, the professional body noted.

Ms Paterson said: “The foundation has helped me in many ways along my journey, with financial support and a mentor. When my studies became more demanding, the bursary enabled me to reduce my shifts in my part-time job and devote as much as possible to my studies.”

ICAS President Clive Bellingham said: “As I told the newly qualified chartered accountants at our reception ceremony, the hard work they put in to qualify will provide a truly rewarding career. The CA qualification has enabled me to travel the world, meet amazing people and deliver work that has made a difference. Our new CAs represent the business leaders of the future and the JP qualification is their passport to success.”
