Almost 37,000 Quebecers were victims of fraud in 2023, a 15% increase in two years, according to the Association of Police Directors of Quebec (ADPQ).

The ADPQ invited the media to a press conference Wednesday morning at the Quebec Provincial Police (SQ) headquarters to report on an ‘alarming increase’ in fraud in Quebec.

Montreal, Monterrey and the Quebec City area are the areas where scammers claimed the most victims.

However, Lovell and Morrissey saw the largest increase in fraud, at 20 percent.

“The most common frauds in Quebec are those involving fraudulent use of service cards, computers and identity theft” and “these categories include fraud involving false representatives, grandparent-type fraud and romance fraud,” said Patrick Belanger of ADPQ.
