mukhtar ansari

With the death of mafia Mukhtar Ansari, the gang war that had been going on for four decades in Purvanchal also came to an end. In the eighties, Mukhtar Ansari’s association with Sadhu Singh and the Maknu Singh gang eventually took him to his grave. Actually, Mukhtar was born in Ghazipur. As a hobby, he started bullying from Ghazipur itself, but his heart used to live in Banaras and he has his own reasons too. Banaras was the largest city of Purvanchal. To run the gang, money was received from businessmen and the coal market.

Mukhtar Ansari, a good cricketer, considered Sadhu and Maknu as his gurus. He also learned the nuances of the crime world from him. After the murder of Maknu and Sadhu, Mukhtar started running their gang. His gang consisted mainly of boys from the Thakur community since the time of Sadhu Maknu, who came from different areas of Purvanchal. Even after the demolition of the Babri structure, there was no communal divide in the Mukhtar Gang gang.

Mukhtar created his own gang

In 1997, Mukhtar formed his own gang. His name was IS-191 Gang. Just after forming the gang, he carried out the kidnapping and murder of Rungta in November of the same year. This case created a communal divide in Mukhtar’s gang. From here the Hindu boys in his gang began to avoid him.

Boys from Punjab and Haryana included in the gang

From here, Mukhtar turned to Punjab, Haryana and Western UP to involve boys in the gang. The Purvanchal boys had started keeping a distance from Mukhtar. At that time, Mukhtar’s closest henchman was Abdul Kalam, whom Mukhtar was said to have transformed from an adviser to a member of parliament.

Koyal Mandi was a source of income for Mukhtar

The coal market of Chandasi was one of the many reasons for the enmity between Mukhtar and Brijesh. The coal market was a major source of income. Awadhesh Rai, who was assassinated in 1991 by Mukhtar along with Abdul Kalam and other shooters, also had business interests linked to this coal market.

His empire did not run in Banaras

Mukhtar had deepened his roots in Banaras. On the strength of shooters like Munna Bajrangi and Abdul Kalam, he made a lot of money in Banaras through extortion, coal and land, but like Ghazipur and Mau, he was never able to run an empire from Banaras.

Elections contested by Banaras in 2009

Brijesh Singh’s gang did not let him do this openly. He saw this opportunity in the Lok Sabha elections of 2009. On a BSP ticket, Mukhtar contested the Banaras election against Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi of the BJP. An election like this based on communal polarization has never been held before in the history of Banaras. The BJP had to go all out for Dr Joshi. Dr Joshi managed to win the election with great difficulty by only 17 thousand votes.

Mukhtar was in jail for the last 18 years and it was said that he used to run his empire even from jail. He left this world with the wish that he could never attain the same status in Banaras as he had attained in Mau and Ghazipur.
