A delegation from Pakistan Newspapers Association (APNS) met Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The Prime Minister congratulated the new APNS panel and expressed his best wishes.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the reins of the country have been taken over under very difficult circumstances, restoring the economy is our biggest challenge and the government’s first priority.
The Prime Minister briefed the APNS delegation about the efforts and strategy to revive the economy.
Shahbaz Sharif said that an action plan is being prepared to modernize the revenue collection system, complete digitization of FBR is being done, tax base is being increased.
The Prime Minister said that revenue cases of more than 2 thousand billion rupees are pending in courts and tribunals, measures are being taken to prevent billions of rupees from being stolen, privatization of government-owned enterprises , institutional reforms, austerity are the government’s priorities.
He said that a committee will be formed to reduce the expenses at the government level which will give recommendations soon.
The Prime Minister said that the press is definitely the fourth pillar of the state, the media has a key role in ensuring good governance and providing awareness to the public, the importance of print media cannot be denied even in today’s digital age.
He said that fake news has become a big challenge, the government and the media need to work together to rectify it, the government believes in the freedom of the press and is taking all possible steps related to it, development the journalist community in Pakistan, and support the government in efforts to ensure prosperity.
The Prime Minister assured the delegation to resolve all the problems faced by the journalist community.
The APNS delegation included Naz Afrin Sehgal, Sarmad Ali, Mujeebur Rahman Shami, Shahab Zuberi, Mohammad Athar Qazi, Syed Munir Jilani, Mohsin Bilal, Mehtab Khan, Faisal Zahid Malik.
Federal Information Minister Ataullah Tarar and relevant government officials were also present in the meeting.
