Harishchandrapur: There were allegations of Trinamool (TMC) attacks on party workers and leadership. In a protest on Thursday, BJP MP Khagen Murmu surrounded Harishchandrapur police station. Harishchandrapur police station was heated due to police encirclement (Harishchandrapur) square. However, police forces were used heavily to quell unrest.
Two days ago, in the local village of Pipla, allegations were made against ruling party panchayat member Mandira Das, her husband Poojan Das and their party with weapons and an attack on the house of Kamal Thokder, general secretary of the BJP Yuva Morcha in the district . Family members including the leader’s mother were injured in this attack. The next day, allegations were made against Pujan and his followers that they had similarly entered the houses of other BJP workers in the area. A number of people were injured in this incident. In protest against that, Malda North BJP MP Khagen Murmu surrounded the Harishchandrapur police station demanding the arrest of the accused ruling party. On this day, BJP workers marched from the party office holding the party flag and protested in front of Harishchandrapur police station. However, there was no untoward incident as police security remained intact.
Sitting on the street in front of the police station, Khagen said, ‘The police of Harishchandrapur police station have become slaves of the ruling party. Wearing uniform, they listen to the words of the ruling party. Trinamool gangsters have attacked our workers for two consecutive days. Some are in hospital. Although a complaint has been lodged at the police station, influential Trinamool leaders Saheb Das, Durjoy Das and Pujan Das are walking around with puffed chests. But the police are silent. We demand their immediate arrest. If accused Trinamool leaders are not arrested, we will launch a bigger movement.’
Khagen also said, ‘The upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Trinamool is trying to influence the area by using the police. Sometimes Trinamool thugs harass our workers like this.’
Meanwhile, Trinamool bloc president Ziaur Rahman said, ‘They are making completely baseless allegations. BJP workers are constantly attacking the houses of our workers. Trinamool has been victorious in that village for 10 years. Now the vote is ahead. The BJP’s feet have lost ground. So they complain. We have filed a police complaint against several of their employees. So now false accusations are being made against us.’
