Traders in Nagaland have decided to close the market indefinitely in protest against extortion by underground groups. Apart from this, many private offices also remained closed.

Nagaland’s commercial capital Dimapur remained closed for the first time on Friday. Subsequently, on the call of the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CNCCI), markets in other districts also remained closed. In fact CNCI says the business community is fed up with extortion. And now they will not suffer this kind of recovery. He demanded that the government take strict measures to stop the recovery and intimidation of these underground groups. According to him, extortion should not be tolerated anymore. The administration should take some strict steps for this. Such activities should be stopped. According to him, in the past complaints were submitted to the government several times, but it had no effect. Therefore now the protest will continue, the market will remain closed.

The markets and offices will remain closed

CNCI announced the closure of all markets and private offices related to business. However, banks, educational institutions, government offices and hospitals were kept out of this bandh.

The restoration was done even after the ceasefire agreement, instructions to the police

The country’s home commissioner, Vicky Kenya, says that according to information received by the government, taxes have been collected by several business groups, particularly in Dimapur. Most of them signed ceasefire agreements with the government. This situation is not true. He directed the police to arrest those involved in extortion under the National Security Law. Also, Commissioner Dimapur has been asked to increase patrolling in the market. Apart from this, IRBN personnel will also be posted.

A special cell will be created

The government ordered the police to establish a special squad to investigate cases of extortion by threats. What needs to be seriously investigated are extortion cases.

Earlier, instructions were also given to the police for investigation

The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) said that similar directions had been issued by the state government earlier as well. But there is still no significant change in the situation. He said the bandh will continue until the government takes any satisfactory step.
