Sheikh Panna, Ratua: The ruling party has been accused of carrying out acid attacks on workers of the Left-Congress alliance in the run-up to the elections. The incident took place on Wednesday night at Kolapathar village in Vado Gram Panchayat of Ratua-1 block. The victims claim that a written complaint has been filed at the Ratua Police Station. All the allegations have been denied by the ruling party.

Trinamool was accused of looting several booths in Ratua in the last panchayat election. Bhado Panchayat area booths were also not left out. The ballot box was recovered from the pit. Ballot boxes can also be seen lying on the streets on polling days. A re-election will be held at the Coalstone booth. The Left-Congress alliance won that election. Trinamool’s dispute with the alliance was ongoing since then. Because of this, it was claimed that two CPM workers were attacked with acid on Wednesday night.

CPM panchayat member Abu Bakkar said, ‘In the last panchayat election, the ruling party bombed the booth and occupied the booth. After we complained there was a re-election. We are winning. Since then some of the ruling party men attacked us on various issues. They attacked us last night. We have contacted Ratua police station in this incident. We have confidence in the police.’

Another victim, Azad Ali, said, ‘We went to a tea shop yesterday after breaking the fast. Bakkar, a Panchayat member from the area, was with me. We were returning home by motorbike after having tea. Someone threw acid at me as I entered the village. The whole body starts to burn. After that we were treated at Ratua Rural Hospital and filed a complaint at Ratua Police Station.

CPM Ratua-1 Area Committee Secretary Nazrul Islam said, ‘We are not surprised by this incident. Actually Trinamool is not a political party. A band of thieves, goons, thieves. They want to stay in power. This time the central forces will be used in large numbers. Can’t steal votes easily. So they are afraid. Now attacking our workers.’

However, Vado Trinamool regional president Mujibur Rahman denied all the allegations and said, ‘I came to know about the incident this morning. I have asked our party workers to know this matter. They don’t know anything. No one from our team is involved in this incident.’

On the other hand, IC of Ratua Arghya Sarkar police station said, ‘No incident of acid attack has taken place.’
